Abstract

Experiments were carried out to evaluate the nematicidal effect of Oleander
(Nerium oleander) extracts on controlling root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita
in-Vitro and in-Vivo. Five different organic solvents i.e., Petroleum Ether, Chloroform,
Acetone, Ethyl Alcohol and Methyl Alcohol were used. Plant extracts screened for
nematicidal activity against egg hatching and mortality of second-stage juveniles of
M. incognita under laboratory conditions and on nematode infecting tomato plants
under greenhouse conditions. Results showed significantly effect of all tested
oleander extracts on egg hatching and larvae mortality under laboratory conditions.
A great reduction in number of galls; eggmasses; females/root system of tomato
plants and number of second stage juveniles (J2S)/250 g soil was recorded
compared to the treated plants with nematode alone. Tomato plant growth
parameters and oxidative enzymes were markedly enhanced compared to the nontreated control.
